Where did the name come from, anyway??
I kind of regret it but also love it too much to make a change. The words themselves go along with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme song.
Yes, I am a nerd.
And Taco Negro is a black Toyota Tacoma, or Taco. The truck itself is pushing 200,000 miles and will need to be replaced someday. There are many disadvantages to a black truck. But these are worries for another day. Taco Negro is still going strong and I do plan on keeping it running until the mechanic bills are larger than a car payment.
This blog began back in 2015 with a very simple plan. My husband Michael came home from work one day and told me he wanted to quit his job, sell the house, and go travel the country in the truck for a year. As a person “cursed” with a rather permanent case of wanderlust, of course I was on board!
It took us a year to implement the entire plan. In August 2016 we left Colorado on an epic trip that ended up lasting 14 months. The blog was designed to document our adventures and to let worried family members know where we were and what we were doing.
I could have lived the nomadic lifestyle forever. Michael … not so much. A year into it he was ready to settle down and in fairly short order that’s what we did. We didn’t get to go everywhere, but we went to a lot of cool places and it was a really good run.
Things have changed since October 2017, when we settled in California, through the pandemic, when we moved to Northwest Arkansas and bought a house (that was fun), to 2022 when we upgraded from a rooftop tent to a slide-in camper.
And for a while there (mostly California) the adventures came to a bit of a halt. With the new camper, though, we’re back in action and I’m back to telling everyone all about it.
This time around I’m mostly working while traveling, and that’s created a new set of challenges. The slide-in camper, while awesome, also presents some unique challenges, specifically the kind that tend to involve spending more money.
Ride along with me! I’ve found that home is wherever you park the truck, and I don’t want the adventures to ever stop.
