RockyGrass Recap (part 2)

RockyGrass was too much fun. This recap is is mostly an excuse to put up all the photos I took!

I was so excited to see my dobro teacher, Sally Van Meter, in her reunion show with the Good Old Persons.

But picks were going on everywhere. At the campgrounds, along the river, you name it.

We watched the first round of the instrument competition. I was so happy to see my friend Bruno in the dobro comp! We first met in 2010, when we both attended RockyGrass academy and ended up in the same Band Scramble band. (We even won the Band Scramble that year.)

Bruno eventually placed second – congrats to you!

The instrument comps are always a blast. One of my favorites was this guy, who entered the mandolin competition with a borrowed mandolin. He borrowed it from one of the instrument dealers outside the Wildflower Pavilion – the price tag was still attached.

In all of this photo taking, I still found time to pull out my dobro and pick some. And pose for pictures, not caring about my gray hair.

We did (of course) see all the headliners – Sam Bush, Rhonda VIncent (she is AMAZING) and the Sunday night closer, the Punch Brothers. What a fantastic show! We even managed to see it from the front row. Our friends at Colelman Square drew ticket number 1 for the tarp run, and sent out their fastest tarp runner. He claimed that front and center spot, and lucky us, there was room on the tarp for me and Michael! Thank you for all your hospitality, Coleman Square – you all rock!
